For the geometry geeks out there! In late 2022 Dave Smith, a shape hobbyist in Yorkshire in the UK, discovered a shape which tessellates, i.e. it covers a surface with a pattern of repeated shapes, that fit together closely without gaps or overlapping (in it’s simplest form, a square or a hexagon). However what he discovered was an ‘Einstein shape’ – not only a tessellation tiling, but will fit together and never form a repeating pattern.
These are fun tiles for playing with fragments, a 13 sided polygon which tessellate. This kit contains various white or coloured Einstein tiles for you to tangle on. The central tile of the mosaic is reversed the rest are all the same. There are various sets which you can choose from.
Play with the various fragment shapes, stretching them to different ratios:
- A square become rhombus
- A triangle become an unequal triangle
- A seed shape can be anchored together at one end
- An orb can fill or can be pebble shaped and stretched – and I am sure you can come up with your own ways of using them too.
This pack includes 13 pre-cut Einstein tiles. If you order two packs I will ship together and add in some of my star shaped tiles to cover the doubled postage costs.
Made in NZ with 250gsm paper in White, Black, Grey, Green and Blue.
Notes for NZ shipping: If you order a these tiles on their own, they will come as a letter. If you add on other products to the same order, it will add a shipping fee – so I will pop in some surprise extra materials, equal the cost of the letter postage.
Notes for Overseas shipping: Some play packs of tiles and my self-published extendable guides are currently the only physical items in my store (you can download video lessons) that I am shipping outside of New Zealand and Australia.
